Link Research launch enhanced L1000 compact encoders
currently exhibiting at NAB, Link Research have launched a Low Bit Rate on its L1000 range of encoders.
This extends the standard minimum bit rate of 2.5 Mb/s down to 500 kb/s. Until now the L1000 was only suited to high bit rate contribution feeds but now new applications are possible where transmission bandwidth is limited.
Link’s encoders are unusual because they can be supplied in a small chassis which is half the size of a standard 19” equipment rack. This compact version is perfect for OB trucks that are going to be fully loaded with equipment. Two units may be supplied in a 1U format.
As equipment in Outside Broadcast vehicles generates a lot of heat, Link Research has designed these encoders to use less than 20 watts of power. This means that they create much less heat and it will be easier to keep the environment cool inside the truck, even in the busiest conditions.
The new low bit-rate option includes lower selectable resolutions to maximise picture performance. It is designed to give excellent picture quality right down to 500kb/s.
End-to-end signal delay is as low as 40mS, without loss of picture quality.
At the moment Link’s encoders are generally used in ENG trucks and sports applications.
Link’s L1000 range of encoders is frequently improved to offer new features. Existing customers can simply upgrade their units with a software download.
Link new encoder/modulators from Link Research are available to view at NAB Booth C390.
