Link Research reveals Wireless High Definition system at NAB
Link Research provided a glimpse of its new wireless camera system, LinkHD with the first unit the L1403 wireless transmitter for High Definition television on show at NAB 2005.
The Link 1403 HD is designed to be attached to any broadcast camera and will be operated by a finger-button display panel with easily selectable menus.
Link has used the latest gate arrays and fast microprocessors in the L1403 to recreate the superb performance of the LinkXP wireless camera family for all High Definition broadcast formats. The L1403 is a true, end-to-end High Definition system, which will operate without transcoding the camera signal to SD and back to HD.
Link Research is retaining the key features of its award-winning SD wireless camera systems in its HD wireless camera system. Significantly, with almost imperceptible transmission delay which will allow feeds from wireless cameras to be edited with feeds from cabled cameras, the robust signal provided by the diversity reception transmitter and the very high picture quality created by Link’s own MPEG encoding.
The bit rate is between 18 and 50 Mb/s and the unit will operate in HQ mode or rugged mode, with bandwidth of 20 MHz or 10MHz.
The system supports six HD formats: 1080i 59.94Hz; 1080i 60Hz; 1080i 50Hz; 720p 59.94Hz; 720p 60Hz; and 720p 50Hz.
Currently undergoing testing, the Link L1403 will be complemented with Link’s own HD receive system which will complete the operational system and deliver the high performance that broadcasters have come to expect from Link Research.
Link Research is timing deliveries of this product to fit with broadcasters buying plans for high profile sporting events in 2006, such as the Winter Olympics and the World Cup.
