Link Research To Feature DTM Race Car Fitted With WIGE Wireless Cameras

Link Research is shipping a racing car to IBC 2007 and will display it, fully rigged with LinkXP wireless cameras for the German touring car masters series, the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM).
The car is being loaned by WIGE Media AG, the highly successful European production company responsible for the German Touring Car Series. WIGE Media is adding 30 more Link systems to its inventory.
WIGE uses Link’s very latest cellular diversity technology in its live race coverage and is moving to High Definition.
DTM cars are fitted with two on-board wireless cameras. The signals from these are multiplexed together and sent via Link’s fibre optic interface units to a cellular diversity network of receive points placed around the track.
Each receive point has two diversity antennas and is connected to the OB truck by fibre. Link’s fibre optic interface units are used so that the antennas and downconverters can be located further away from the OB site.
"WIGE’s solution has proved to be outstandingly effective during the 2007 series of the DTM competition," says Stefan Hoff, the WIGE Board member responsible for the operational business: "The physical conditions these systems are subjected to are enormous. The pace the transmitters are moving at onboard the cars is just as remarkable as the size of the area we are able to cover."
Link’s distributor, MCI Studio Hamburg, is supplying the equipment to WIGE Media AG. Max Below of Studio Hamburg MCI says: "WIGE is getting great results because Link’s modulation system, LMS-T, uses advanced LDPC error correction and interleaving. It gives HD users the quality of pictures they have come to expect from wireless SD systems."
The DTM is the most popular international touring car series, providing spectacular entertainment. In the support programme of DTM the Formula 3 Euroseris adds to a unique motor racing experience.
The competition moves around Europe, starting at Hockenheim, travelling to Brands Hatch in the UK, Mugello Autodromo in Italy, Zandvoort Circuit in the Netherlands and the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona before returning to the Hockenheim Ring for the final round of the series.
Link Research will display the car, the High Definition wireless links and the fibre system and there will be race videos showing on a plasma screen.
