Avid technology to create HD short film entry

Avid Technology Inc have announced that Element Productions are to use Avid solutions to create its HD short film and a related DV documentary at the 2002 Newport International Film Festival on June 4-9.
The team is using a new Avid|DS HD v6 system to edit and finish the seven to 10-minute short film, which they are filming, editing and screening all within the five days of the festival. The 'making of' documentary, which chronicles the aggressive production schedule of the HD project, is being cut with Avid Xpress DV v3 software and will be screened alongside the film on the last day of the festival.
"In the fast-paced world of film production, the right technology makes all the difference. The nature of this project requires a system that is both versatile and high-end, and Avid|DS HD has proven itself to be just that," said Eran Lobel, Executive Producer for Element Productions.
"Faced with our exciting challenge of creating and screening a short film in five days, we were happy to learn that the new Avid|DS HD v6 system is capable of everything from basic editing to complex effects, titles and color correction."
The short film, 'Five Days to Sunday' will feature an entirely digital production workflow - from capture to editing to distribution. Footage is being acquired natively in 24P HD and digitised directly into the Avid|DS HD system, which will be used for both offline quarter-resolution editing, as well as online finishing. The Avid|DS HD system will then generate a digital master for the public screening on Sunday, June 9.
During the intense five-day production, the Element team is using DV cameras to capture behind-the-scenes footage of the filming. Using two laptops running Avid Xpress DV v3.0 software, the team is producing a documentary that shows the realities of making a film within such a compressed production schedule. The portability of the Avid Xpress DV software on laptops will play a particularly key role on the last day of the festival, as Element's editors will complete the documentary from the audience while the HD film is being screened. The documentary will then be screened immediately following the film.
Element Productions will give Avid permission to stream the movie, 'Five Days to Sunday' and the documentary on Avid's website at www.avid.com
