British Film Tops Box Office Days After Release

News Image
'Notes On A Scandal' reached number one at the UK box-office just six days after its release.
The British Oscar and Bafta nominated critical and commercial success was set to pass the £2 million mark, seeing off competition from titles such as 'Blood Diamond' and 'Dreamgirls'.
Notes On A Scandal is up for three BAFTAs on Sunday (Best British Film, Best Actress for Judi Dench and Best Adapted Screenplay for Patrick Marber) and has received four Academy Award nominations (Best Actress for Judi Dench, Best Supporting Actress for Cate Blanchett, Best Adapted Screenplay for Patrick Marber and Best Score for Philip Glass). Dench, Blanchett and Marber also received Golden Globe nominations.
Based on Zoe Heller’s award-winning novel of the same name, Notes On A Scandal is directed by Richard Eyre (Iris, Stage Beauty) from an adaptation by Patrick Marber (Closer). A presentation from Fox Searchlight and the UK’s DNA Films, Notes On A Scandal is produced by Scott Rudin and' Robert Fox, who previously partnered to produce Eyre’s Iris as well as 'Closer' and The Hours.
Notes On A Scandal is the third recent successful British collaboration between DNA’s Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich and Fox Searchlight following The History Boys and The Last King of Scotland. The two companies are also behind Danny Boyle’s highly anticipated Sunshine, which opens in the UK on April 6.
