Icon Films Hunts 'Mythical' Beasts For National Geographic Channel

News Image
Icon Films has produced Beast Man for National Geographic Channel (NGC).
The investigative documentary series will follow biologist and explorer, Pat Spain as he travels to some of the most remote places on earth to find our the truth behind legends of bizarre monsters.
The series will premiere in February on National Geographic Channel internationally, and as Beast Hunter on National Geographic Channel US beginning in March.
Pat Spain, the great nephew of Charles Fort, the so-called Prophet of the Unexplained and early 20th Century researcher of scientific anomalies, is on a quest to discover the truth behind mythical monsters.
The series follows Spain as he immerses himself amongst tribes and cultures and meets eye witnesses, supposed victims, local experts and scientists in his pursuit to separate fact from fiction.
Travelling from the swamps of the Congo Basin to the remote forests of Sumatra he seeks out mysterious creatures including the Mokele-Mbembe, the Mapinguari and the Orang Pendek.
Harry Marshall, CEO, Icon Films, said: "Legends come from somewhere. Beast Man applies science, zoology and anthropology to understand the truth of some of the most enduring myths of the natural world. Pat Spain comes from a scientific background but with his great uncle's curiosity and open-mindedness, he takes the viewer on adventures into the lost wilderness to find out what is still left for us to discover about our planet and the creature we share it with. We are happy to partner with National Geographic Channel to present these creatures on a global platform."
Steve Burns, Executive Vice President of Content, NGC, said: "Pat Spain is smart, dynamic and engaging. His enthusiasm for these mysterious beasts leaps off screen as he pushes the limits of logical understanding - and his own body - to reveal truth behind legend. Beast Man delivers a mythical and exotic journey that will connect with our audience and we look forward to bringing this partnership with Icon Films to air."
Barny Revill, Series Director, Icon Films, said: "I think we surprised ourselves with this series. Everybody who worked on these films came in a little jaded and cynical as we hunt for mythical beasts, but without exception by the end of each film, our preconceptions were totally overturned. We made some startling discoveries and there are beasts out there that do not belong in the mythical realm."
Beast Man is an Icon Films production for National Geographic Channel. It is series directed by Barny Revill and executive produced by Harry Marshall for Icon Films. For NGC, Steve Burns in the Executive Vice President of Content.
