SMK Electronics To License Movea's MotionIC Platform Technologies

Movea and SMK-Europe NV has announced a licensing agreement to integrate Movea's patented MotionIC platform technologies into SMK's next generation remote control designs.
Under the agreement, SMK and Movea establish a development relationship and business partnership to jointly develop a product prototype that will be released at IBC 2010 in Amsterdam and promoted to leading PayTV Service Providers and Set-Top Box manufacturers.
The partners will be co-promoting the new motion remote with Movea showing the product in a private meeting room in the Novotel Hotel near the RAI Convention Centre. Sam Guillaume, CEO of Movea, said: "We are delighted to partner with SMK, the world's largest remote control manufacturer and deliver MotionIC based solutions that offer Service Providers new revenue opportunities, enhanced user experience, and increased end-user value. Through its adoption of the MotionIC Platform, SMK continues to demonstrate its commitment to innovation and product leadership in the digital television ecosystem."
SMK will also be showing the product, based on its "Jade" remote control from factor, and leading discussions with Service Providers on emerging digital television services that will leverage Movea's MotionIC technology through a new breed of set-top box and motion-driven UI's for navigating digital media. Patrick Delanoeije, General Manager, SMK Europe, said: "Movea's advanced MotionIC technology provides best-in-class motion sensing and pointing capabilities, enabling us to promote the most viable and cost effective solutions to the PayTV market. We anticipate that leading European Service Providers will adopt this proven sensor technology in an accelerated fashion following Movea's first major commercial IPTV deployment in Q4 2010. SMK is committed to integrate this advanced functionality in both off-the-shelf and custom developed remotes, serving European clients from its local Hungary-based production facilities."
