ITV Takes Nordisk Film's '71 Degrees North'
One of Northern Europe's largest independent television production companies has announced that its flagship reality series '71 Degrees North' has been commissioned by ITV1 in the UK.
Nordisk Film TV World, now part of the Banijay Group, will debut their series on ITV in 2010.
The multiple episode series will feature a cast of 10 celebrities and will air in a primetime slot yet to be announced.
Described as one of the most dazzling reality programmes in the world, it combines spectacular yet harsh nature, fierce competition and constant challenges of completing a 2,000 km journey on snow, ice and water.
Each episode provides new excitement as viewers follow two teams going from the south of Norway all the way north to Nordcap (71 degrees north) in conditions tougher than seen in any other reality show.
Surviving in temperatures as low as -51 degrees centigrade, the contestants are pushed to their physical and mental limits.
Commissioned by Layla Smith and Elaine Bedell at ITV1, the series will be a co-production between UK company Fever Media and Nordisk Film TV's Norwegian production house.
Executive produced by David Mortimer, David Tibballs and Rune Biseth, it will be filmed entirely on location in Norway starting from Spring next year.
David Mortimer, Managing Director at Fever Media commented: "We've all seen different reality shows that try to challenge celebrities in new and interesting ways, but I've never seen anything as compelling, exciting and genuinely challenging as '71 Degrees North'.
"We're incredibly excited that ITV have trusted us to bring a UK version of the show to primetime on ITV1 and look forward to working with our co-production partners Nordisk Film."
Karoline Spodsberg, Chief Operating Officer and International Director at Nordisk Film TV added: "The UK commission of '71 Degrees North' represents a fantastic milestone. We trust it will create great value for ITV and we look forward to our corporation with Fever doing our very best to ensure this."
