BAFTA Scotland Announces Award Nominations

The nominations for the BAFTA Scotland Awards 2009, which will take place at Glasgow's Science Centre on November 8, have been announced.
The awards were announced on Monday by Helen Anderson, director of BAFTA Scotland and Libby McArthur, Lisa Gardner and Morag Calder, stars of River City, were on hand to help launch this year's awards, as well as celebrate River City's first BAFTA nomination in the category of TV drama.
In film, In The Loop received nominations for star Peter Capaldi - Acting in Film and Armando Ianucci - Director. Ianucci also received a nomination in the Best Writing category alongside his coleagues Jesse Armstrong and Simon Blackwell. Richard Jobson's New Town Killers will take on Kurdi and Crying With Laughter for the Feature Film award.
Acting in TV sees two of the most competitive categories. In the male category, David Tennant received a nomination for Dr Who, taking on Robert Carlyle for The Unloved and Bill Paterson for Spanish Flu - The Forgotten Fallen. Acting in TV Female nominations see Holby City star Stella Gonet and Daniella Nardini getting nods for New Town, as well as Lindsay Duncan for Margaret.
Scotland's internationally renowned multimedia industry saw Championship Manager 2010 Express receive a nomination in the Game category, taking on Low Grav Racer and Flock.
This year, for the first time, there are three distinct digital media awards - sponsored by Scottish Enterprise. This recognises the increasing contribution played by Scotland's games, web and interactive markets to the nation's moving image industries.
BAFTA Scotland will again be webcast, with the full awards streamed live on the internet, giving people outside of Scotland and indeed the UK, the opportunity to enjoy the night. You can view all the excitement at: www.baftascotland.co.uk.

The sheer volume of films, TV and games produced in Scotland this year is staggering - a real testament to Scotland's burgeoning industry. There is some inspiring talent both in front of and behind the camera. I'm looking forward to next month's ceremony and announcing our winners."
