Minister Champions New Broadcast Research Centre
Paul Murphy, the UK Minister for Digital Inclusion and Secretary of State for Wales, has said that a pioneering new broadcast research centre set up by the University of Wales, Newport, will help change the face of the world.
The Institute of Advanced Broadcasting (IAB) will work alongside broadcasters, content developers, film makers and key industry players to develop research projects that will address the challenges of convergence in digital technology and media and explore suitable distribution and business models to meet the changing face of broadcasting.
Speaking at the launch of the IAB at the spectacular East Wintergarden building in Canary Wharf last week, Mr Murphy said: "Already the transformation in South Wales as a result of the digital revolution has been huge. I now see people aged in their 80s using the internet to book their holidays, do their shopping or speak to their relatives.
The work being done by the University of Wales, Newport, and the IAB will help benefit not only the broadcasting industry in Wales but also beyond. These remarkable men and women are changing the face of the world."
The IAB was launched at Creative Capital, a three-day event organised by University of Wales, Newport, to encourage buisnesses to use fresh thinking and creativity to break out of the current economic climate.
Targeted at business leaders in the challenging and changing worlds of media, business, design, regeneration and technology, Creative Capital featured a programme of interactive workshops, launches, work from the latest fashion and photography talent and sessions with senior industry figures, all shown on state of the art digital walls.
