dB BROADCAST TO REFURBISH BBC WALES TV STUDIO
dB BROADCAST, the Cambridgeshire based systems integrator, have won a large competitive contract with BBC Technology Consulting and Projects for the refurbishment of the combined production and vision gallery in BBC Wales C2 studio in Cardiff.
Work on the project has already begun and the scheduled on-air date is March 1 2002.
The contract embraces the design, prefabrication, installation and commissioning of technical furniture and systems for the gallery, and the supply and installation of suitable 19 inch racks and cabling for equipment located in a nearby apparatus room. As is usual with dB, to speed up delivery time, much of the system will be pre-fabricated and tested at their Cambridgeshire manufacturing base, before being shipped to Cardiff.
Specific equipment to be supplied by dB will include a Sony vision mixer linked to Questech DVE; BNCS-controlled Pro-Bel vision and audio matrices; a LSI lighting control desk: a large 70 JVC production/vision monitor stack in the main gallery area and a 20 monitor audio stack; vision mixer tallies, under monitor displays and cue lights; a range of outboard sound equipment; sound monitoring equipment; and a Telex talkback system. To give some idea of the size of the project, the main vision control desk is approximately 10 metres in length. dB Broadcast will also provide BBC staff training.
Tom Swan, dB's director of sales and marketing, said: "Apart from submitting a competitive tender, we believe that our large in-house wiring team of 19, who work to consistently high standards, was an influencing factor in the selection of dB Broadcast. We also provided alternative solutions in a number of areas, for example plasma screens and projection monitors, instead of conventional monitors."
