Soundtrack Award Backed By Classic FM
Classic FM, one of the UK's most popular commercial radio stations, is to sponsor a new award honouring the best soundtrack of the last 12 months as part of the Richard Attenborough Film Awards (RAFAs) 2009.
The sponsorship was announced in December by Cinema Days, the trade event's UK regional film journalists, who organise the RAFAs - the UK's regional film awards.
Six categories - film, filmmaker, actor, actress, screenwriter and rising star - are voted for by critics, journalists and producers working in all branches of regional media, while additional categories are determined by public votes.
The Classic FM Film Music of the Year Award will go to the composer(s) of the best original film score, as voted by Classic FM listeners.
Voting for the award, based on a shortlist of 20 contenders, will take place online at www.classicfm.com.
The vote will open on 5 January and close on Sunday, 25 January. It will be promoted across the Classic FM schedule, with special editions of the weekly Classic FM at the Movies show presented by Simon Bates showcasing the shortlisted soundtracks.
The winner will be revealed as part of the announcement of the Richard Attenborough Film Awards on Thursday 29 January.
