UK Film Council Fund Scandalous School Classic
The UK Film Council’s Premiere Fund has awarded Lottery funding to the all-star modern day version of the classic St Trinian’s which starts filming on 25 March.
The new version of the much-loved fifties comedy tells the story of the girls of the infamous St Trinian’s school, who pull off a great scam which involves stealing a priceless painting in order to pay off enormous debts and save their beloved school from closure.
The strong British cast includes Rupert Everett (The Madness of King George, Shakespeare in Love) in the dual roles of the unorthodox headmistress Camilla Fritton and her brother Carnaby Fritton opposite Colin Firth (Love Actually, Bridget Jones’s Diary), Stephen Fry (A Fish Called Wanda, Stormbreaker), Jodie Whittaker (Venus), Tamsin Egerton (Driving Lessons), Tallulah Riley (Pride & Prejudice), comedian Russell Brand (Penelope) and Caterina Murino (Casino Royale).
A host of rising talent will play the new breed of the modern day St Trinian’s girls. These include Tallulah Riley (Pride and Prejudice), singer Paloma Faith Blomfield , Tamsin Egerton (Keeping Mum)and Antonia Bernath.
The film is being produced and directed by Oliver Parker (Othello, An Ideal Husband, The Importance of Being Earnest) and Barnaby Thompson (Wayne’s World, Valiant, Alien Autopsy, Fade to Black from a script written by Piers Ashworth and Nick Moorcroft.
St Trinian’s, previously supported through the UK Film Council’s Development Fund’s slate scheme, is being backed by the UK Film Council’s Premiere Fund. Sally Caplan, Head of the Premiere Fund commented: “This is a British project through and through with a fantastic cast and a very experienced and talented production team. We are very pleased to be supporting St Trinian’s, an exciting comedy feature with great potential to appeal to a contemporary audience.”
St Trinian’s is an Entertainment Film Distributors and Ealing Studios presentation of a Fragile Film with funding from the UK Film Council’s Premiere Fund, Entertainment and Investec. Ealing Studios is handling international sales.
