RTL Klub Catches Jungle Fever From ITV Global Entertainment
Currently broadcast live from the jungle in Argentina, RTL Klub in Hungary is the latest in a line of international broadcasters to acquire the hit format 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!'.
'Celeb Vagyok, Ments Kl Innen' premiered last Monday night with a 37.9% share of the 18-49s market).
The closet competition in the slot was tv2 tabloid magazine with 20.9% share and daily soap at 21.8%.
Locally produced versions of 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!' have been made by a number of broadcasters including three series for RTL in Germany, ABC in the US and TF1 in France as well as seven series for ITV in the UK.
The UK version, filmed in Australia and hosted by celebrated presenting duo Ant and Dec, achieves spectacular ratings success. The most recent series was ITV1's number one show, excluding soaps, based on the season average.
In Germany, the series returned to RTL with a season finale winning its primetime slot by 12 share points for the target audience (14-49s).
'Im A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!' has reinvigorated a number of celebrities' careers or put them on the road to television success following their move from the world of sports or music.
It has even had romantic success, with the subsequent marriage of model Jordan (Katie Price) and singer Peter Andre who met in the jungle camp during the third series.
The highly anticipated eighth series of the show will air in the UK later this year.
'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!' is a hugely successful reality format where a group of celebrities are dropped into the heart of a remote and isolated location.
With few creature comforts, the celebrities are forced to share a basic camp in harsh conditions. The small amount of food that is provided has to be won in daily challenges.
Peter Kolosi at RTL Klub Hungary commented: "This is extremely exciting! One of the world's top formats has just arrived in Hungary and our celebrities and viewers just don't know what has hit them. You can't imagine how our luxury loving stars will manage to survive in the middle of the insect and animal infested rain forest - and neither will they! But it isn't just the local creature that are the problem - their fellow contestants can be just as irritating and nasty. This show is television at its best - and it's live!"
Peter Iacono, President and Managing Director of ITV Global Entertainment added: "We're thrilled that RTL Klub is creating its own version of what has to be one of the best reality shows ever. It's a big commitment but it delivers big results and we know it will certainly entertain audiences throughout Hungary this fall."
