1080p24 Playout Wins OmniBus iTX A Star Award At IBC2008
OmniBus Systems, an award-winning provider of comprehensive automation and content management solutions to the broadcast industry, has won a 2008 STAR (Superior Technology Award Recipient) Award from the editorial staff of TV Technology Europe magazine at IBC2008.
The award was given for the industry-leading addition of 1080p24 capability to the OmniBus iTX production and automation system.
The STAR Award is designed to celebrate and showcase the preeminent technological innovations available to the broadcast industry. TV Technology Europe's editors reviewed a variety of products, examined the technical applications and their overall contribution to the industry, and then chose 25 winners.
Mark Hallinger, Editor of TV Technology Europe, said: "STAR awards are given to interesting new products that help a user save money or accomplish a task in an easier way.
"The products selected help advance the industry - some were chosen because of technical novelty or innovation, some because they filled an important gap in the production or transmission chain, and some because they were just cool products."
iTX's 1080p24 capability, believed to be an industry first, was unveiled at IBC2008 and immediately created a stir among broadcasters keen to provide services at the highest quality supported by their viewers' screens. The first 1080p24 services are expected to hit the airwaves during 2009.
Ian Fletcher, OmniBus Systems Chief Technical Officer, said: "We're very pleased to win this award, which reflects the buzz that iTX's 1080p24 capability created at IBC. 1080p24 has been a bit of a holy grail for the high end of the broadcasting sector ever since consumer sets became capable of receiving it. We've added it to iTX in response to demand from our high-end customers, and the lead we've established in doing so, demonstrates once again the flexibility, power and development potential of the iTX platform."
