Pinnacle provide cost-effective solution for Leeds University

Leeds University’s Institute of Communications Studies have purchased 30 units of Pinnacle Systems’ Edition DV video editing systems for their new media studies undergraduate course.
The systems will be used to teach first year students the basics of video editing, becoming more advanced as the course progresses. Edition DVs were chosen for this as their low price allowed the university to acquire a lot of units, giving more students the chance to get hands-on experience using a very high-performance machine.
Andrew Thorpe, Technology Officer, explained: “Price played a big part in our choice as we had a limited budget and we wanted to get as many units as possible. Pinnacle is new to us. Our supplier, Planet PC had seen good reviews of the new Edition DV so we decided to take a look and we liked it. Not only was the price right, it also gives the functionality we needed.”
The new Pinnacle Edition DVs will work very hard at the university. With an anticipated intake of 70 or 80 a year there will be some 240 students by year three. The department is not committed to acquiring further systems at this stage, but he says that if the Editions DVs perform as expected, then he will stick with them.
