Wildscreen 2002 showcase Avid Xpress DV

Avid UK have joined with reseller DVC to attend Wildscreen 2002, the world's largest festival of moving images from the natural world, taking place in Bristol from October 14-18.
DVC will be demonstrating the latest version of Avid Xpress DV software on a laptop, editing a variety of nature footage to show how Avid Xpress DV can be used by filmmakers to edit on the road.
Visitors to the stand will also see Avid customers’ footage, which was edited using Avid Xpress DV, including clips from one of the programmes from the BBC’s current series, 'Steve Leonard’s Extreme Animals'. Simon Bell, Assistant Producer on the series, commented: "I had the Avid Xpress DV system in our office to do the pre-edit, but we ended up cutting one of the three programmes on it which saved us money. The Avid Xpress DV worked fantastically, even given the monumental amounts of storage required."
Additional footage on show comes from a forthcoming documentary called 'My Heart Is A Lion'. The film, which was shot, directed, produced and edited by Mark Hawtin, follows a Ugandan artist who paints animal Totems, or spirits; Hawtin was able to capture stunning close-up footage of mountain gorillas and other animals in the jungle while the artist drew them.
Hawtin used Avid Xpress DV to edit while shooting on location in Africa. An editor for eight years, Hawtin chose to work on the Xpress DV because of its flexibility on the road and its familiar timeline and interface.
