Lazarus Rises

UK independent distributor NBDtv/DCD Media, has announced a raft of sales for three high profile documentaries executive produced by Creative Director Sheldon Lazarus and produced by DCD Media-owned, September Films
Lazarus originated the ideas and won the commissions for September Films - Boys Joined At The Head, Stephen Wiltshire: The Human Camera and I Am The Elephant Man.
Boys Joined At The Head (1x60’ For Channel Five) tells the story of conjoined Egyptian twins Mohammed and Ahmed, following their journey as they prepare to undergo life threatening separation surgery in the US.
The film also documents their recovery back home in Egypt. It has been sold to Blue Eyes Television, Germany; Kanal 5, Sweden; Nelonen, Finland; Nine Network, Australia; TV2, Denmark; TV3, Ireland; TVNZ, New Zealand and Viasat, Estonia, Latvia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovenia, Radio Canada
Stephen Wiltshire: The Human Camera (1x60' For Channel Five) profiles the autistic artist who is able to draw incredibly detailed landscapes entirely from memory.
The film charts his progress from childhood to international success as an artist and explores how he has overcome his autism.
The documentary has been acquired by Danmarks Radio, Denmark; Kanal 5, Sweden; Nine Network, Australia; Televisio De Catalunya Spain, TV Norge, Norway and TVNZ, New Zealand, VTM Belgium, TV Ontaria Canada, BBC America.
I Am The Elephant Man (1x60' For Channel 4) follows the work of Professor Xu, a revolutionary Chinese physician, who deals with abnormal tumours that other doctors have been too afraid to challenge.
His most famous case is Huang Chuncai, a 31-year-old man suffering from one of the world's most extreme cases of neurofibroma – a tumour of the nervous system – which means he finds it hard to walk, speak, hear and eat and has caused him to be slowly ostracised from society.
Using Huang's story as a prism, I am the Elephant Man explores big issues about modern China and how it is trying to compete with the west in terms of modern medicine and surgery. The documentary has been sold to Kanal 5, Sweden; Nine Network, Australia; TV Norge, Norway, Red Media Russia, Teva France and Nelonen Finland.
Nicky Davies Williams, Chief Executive Officer, NBDtv/DCD Media, said: "We are thrilled with the sales secured for these fascinating documentaries, all of which rated extremely well in the UK.
"This success further strengthens our valuable relationship with September Films, which continues to produce high quality human interest documentaries which resonate with audiences throughout the world."
