AKA Design Transforms Royal College Of Music Studios

The Royal College of Music in London has transformed both of its control rooms with the help of studio furniture specialist AKA Design.
Avgoustos Psillas, the RCM's Studio Manager, said: "We were aiming to transform the working environment in both control rooms at RCM Studios, both ergonomically and aesthetically. AKA seemed the obvious choice - we'd been talking about transforming our spaces for a long time and every time the subject came up, AKA's brochure came out.
"One of our engineers used to work at Wave Studios, and was adamant that the work AKA had done in their control rooms was very impressive indeed. Previous experience, good first impressions and a nice brochure made it impossible for us to even bother looking elsewhere."
AKA's Managing Director Guy Wilson visited the college to discuss the best design for the budget.
Mr Psillas continued: "After receiving the initial design, which seemed fresh and modern in a very subtle way, we felt confident the outcome would be very positive. Everyone at AKA had a very good understanding of the market and the available solutions.
"We felt we were important to them and that what they offered was tailored to our needs as opposed to just another sale. They were there for us through the design and installation process and were happy to accommodate us when we went back wanting them to change a few things."
Mr Psillas said that the response to the new studios has been good, both from the students who use them for group and one to one projects and also from the RCM's commercial clients. He said: "From what I can see and hear from everybody who's worked with us since the renovation, we have succeeded in what we set out to do! The furniture looks and works fantastically for us and we are in the process of ordering some more for other parts of the studio."
AKA Design offers a bespoke design and build studio interiors service. The company has also developed a range of off-the-shelf, flat-packed furniture, with the option of combining elements of both to suit clients' individual requirements.
