AKA Design Equips Highway Television Facility

AKA Design has designed and crafted a custom curved Avid S6 desk in crown walnut for French post-production company, Highway Television.

The furniture has been installed in a newly-renovated audio suite in the Paris-based facility, and will be used to house the Avid S6 console.

Highway Television has more than 50 Avid Media Composer and Apple Final Cut Pro editing stations, all based on four Avid ISIS servers and an EditShare system. There are also a number of grading suites, featuring DaVinci Resolve and Avid Symphony Nitrix DX systems, plus six audio suites, each with Avid Pro Tools HD systems. The new furniture sits beautifully within the refurbished space, creating a stylish, ergonomic workstation.

Another recent project for AKA Design was the commission of a second rise-and-fall desk for Splice Post, designed to house a FilmLight Baselight colour grading system. With all the research that shows how beneficial sit-stand desks can be to our health, mood and productivity, it's no wonder that AKA are seeing a marked rise in requests for their rise-and-fall desks. Splice – a creative and independent post production house – already has its first AKA custom rise-and-fall grading desk installed in its recently-refurbished grading and viewing theatre; this second desk will also be used for grading.

"With the typically-long hours worked in post-production, it's very helpful to be able to stand and vary your working position," said Guy Wilson, AKA's Managing Director. "The rise-and-fall desk has presets for height, making it easy for different users to work in the grading suite without fear of losing someone else's settings too."

Last year, AKA also installed 58 of its rise-and-fall offline editing desks at The Farm Group's facility in Newman Street, London, to allow a more comfortable working experience for operators; the desks have already received very positive feedback from users there.

"There has been interest in the rise-and-fall desks from audio customers too," Guy continued, "not just editing and grading facilities, as this style of working continues to grow in popularity."
