Psychology News Gets Off The Fence
Off The Fence Productions has announced that it is teaming up with UK factual indie company Psychology News Productions for two new projects.
The first project will be a one-off special, which tells the story of how Sigmund Freud fled to London from Nazi Germany, while the second project will be a long-running series, but the details are confidential at present.
Psychology News Productions is headed up by renowned psychologist, writer and documentary producer David Cohen.
Cohen has worked on major TV and film documentaries such as the critically lauded 'Gorbachev's Asylums' for Channel 4 and ITV's BAFTA-nominated film 'Our Daughter Holly', the only film on the Soham murders made with the co-operation of the Wells family. More recently, he produced 'Diana - The Night She Died' and 'Diana: The Inquest' for Five.
Psychology News also recently published 'Pushing The Limits', the autobiography of wheelchair athlete Mark Eccleston, which has been nominated for Best Rugby book at the 2008 British Sports Book Awards.
Commenting on the announcement of the new deal, Mr Cohen said: "Sigmund Freud was one of the towering figures of the 20th century as he changed the way we think of ourselves. His last two years when he had to flee the Nazis were the most dramatic of his life. And it now seems that a Nazi helped him.
"This will be a truly revelatory film and I look forward to working with the team at Off the Fence to produce it."
Off The Fence said that the one-year co-production deal reinforced the company's commitment to producing high quality factual production across a range of genres. Darrel James, General Manager of Off The Fence, said: "David (Cohen) has a great track record of producing high quality, entertaining and insightful documentary programmes and we are excited about collaborating with him."
Off the Fence is an independent production and distribution company, which specialises in non-fiction programming for the international marketplace. Established in 1994, the company co-produces with broadcasters such as Animal Planet, National Geographic and the BBC, and has produced over 1200 hours of natural history, science, health, adventure, history and social documentaries.
