Horror 'Hysteria' Nominated For First Light Movies Award
A group of 16-18 year-olds working out of the Nerve Centre in Derry, in conjunction with Off the Streets, has been nominated for the First Light Movies Awards 2008, which will take place in London's Odeon Leicester Square. Vincent, Specs and Gerry's film 'Hysteria' is in the Best Horror Category.
The posters for Hysteria would suggest that a wicked new DJ set could breathe life into the town’s old nightclub, but when a group of young people suffer fatally for their night out, maybe it wasn't such a good idea. This powerful horror follows a terrifying, fast-paced evening where the drama is heightened by the mysterious unseen perpetrator and trembling camera techniques.
Their enthusiasm and commitment of the young film-makers has certainly paid off. As well as being nominated for the First Light Awards, 'Hysteria' reached the top eight of Belfast’s Cinemagic and a clip was broadcast as part of BBC NI's Children in Need coverage.
First Light Movies funds and inspires young people throughout the UK, aged from 5 to 19, to make films reflecting the diversity of their lives. Since launching in 2001, they have enabled over 12,000 budding young filmmakres to write, act, shoot, light, direct and produce over 800 films. Working with filmmakers and organisations, First Light Movies films cover a diverse range of topics and genres, and make use of accessible digital film technology.
