Thirty Irish Films To Screen At Spanish Film Festival
Spain's Festival de Cine de Alcalá de Henares (ALCINE), will screen 30 Irish shorts during the upcoming festival on a dedicated Irish Day on 16 November.
Assisted by Reel Ireland, the shorts will be screened in different sections - recent Irish shorts and short shorts as well as the genres of fantasy and horror. Many of the shorts that will feature were produced as part of one of Bord Scannan na hEireann / the Irish Film Boards short film schemes.
The ALCINE festival explained that they hope to cast some light on the current Irish cinema and allow the audience to experience and enjoy these short films.
Several Irish filmmakers whose work will feature in the festival will be in attendance, including Ken Wardrop (Undressing My Mother, Bongo Bong), Jason Tammemagi (Not There Yet, Night Out), Margaret Corkery (Joyride) and producer Macdara Kelleher (The Halo Effect, Tonight is Cancelled).
The acclaimed Irish feature Small Engine Repair which was co-funded by the IFB will also screen as part of the festival and it's director Niall Heery will be in attendance.
The diverse festival, which has been running for 36 years is one of Spain's most important short film competitions. It has previously focused on works from other specific countries such as documentaries from Latin American directors, animated films from China and shorts from Brazil.
The Festival de Cine de Alcala de Henares (ALCINE) runs from 9 - 17 November just outside Madrid.
