Cardiff Based Movie Mogul Fund Launches Website
Cardiff Bay-based production company Movie Mogul Fund has launched its website www.moviemogulfund.com, in preparation for the first 16 prospective film productions to be undertaken by this innovative film funding venture commencing 1 September 2007.
Billed as 'a community generated film funding system', Movie Mogul Fund makes use of the internet's unique communication abilities by enabling its members to influence and be involved in production of feature films from the comfort of their laptops.
Screenplays are entered in competition by hopeful filmmakers and production money is collected from a combination of film industry sponsorship and website membership fees. In return for their subscription, Movie Mogul Fund users decide which films make it into production, giving them the rare opportunity to take an active role in the production of new films.
Eight feature-length and eight short film screenplays are shortlisted, from which website subscribers must decide their favourite in each category. The two proposals with the most support at the end of a three-month period are then put into production. During this period members have the opportunity to discuss ideas with other users and the filmmakers and writers themselves by way of forums attached to the main site.
Producer/director of the UK-wide enterprise, John Shackleton, commented: "There is an abundance of talent out there but only very few outlets in which to get things made, and sadly it doesn't necessarily tally that the cream always rises to the top. There seemed to me to be an obvious missing link in the film chain; where is the democracy in film selection? Astute, intelligent audiences pay to watch films, why is nobody consulting them on rising talent?"
