Irish Prime Minister Opens Brown Bag Films Studio

Irish Prime Minister, Bertie Ahern, recently opened Brown Bag Films animation studio in Smithfield, Dublin.
Douglas Wallace architects were engaged to create Ireland's first High Definition animation and post production studio which is located on Smithfield Square. Representing an investment of over 1.3 Million Euro by the two directors, the state of the art studio is equipped to handle animated feature films, commercials and TV series in full High Definition.
“We are delighted with the new studio and our investment into High Definition technology ensures we can create original programmes and deliver them directly to international broadcasters entirely in house,” said Managing Director Cathal Gaffney. The new facility includes four High Definition online suites, including a HD Smoke room, a voice recording studio, as well as a substantial 3D render farm.
“This is a very important day for the animation industry as well as for here at Brown Bag. Irish animation is now highly regarded on an international level, an important part of the film and television industry,” said the Irish Prime Minister. “Irish animation companies are now creating, producing and raising international finance for their own projects and that is terrific. I am pleased to see that Brown Bag Films have been at the leading edge of that success.”
Commenting on the Irish tax incentives, Bertie Ahern said: “This incentive has ensured that Irish animation producers can bring international projects to the country as well as financing our animation projects internationally.”
Brown Bag Films employ more than 50 full time talented animators, directors and designers working on TV series and TV commercials for domestic and international markets.
Brown Bag recently completed a 26 X 5 minute HD series for Nickelodeon UK and HIT Entertainment. ‘Wobbly Land’ was created by Cat Little and is set to air internationally on Nickelodeon this Autumn.
Established in 1994 by Cathal Gaffney and Darragh O Connell, the company was nominated for an Academy Award in 2002 for ‘Give Up Yer Aul Sins’. In 2006, their animated series for RTE ‘I’m an Animal’ sold to over 120 countries worldwide.
