Rohde & Schwarz SFU Broadcast Test System Upgraded

Rohde & Schwarz have announced that its model R&S SFU Broadcast Test System has been upgraded with a new application to support the SCTE 40 Standard.
In addition to its all-in-one solution for broadcast and mobile TV standards, the R&S SFU provides cable equipment manufacturers and cable network operators with the ability to test and verify that end-user terminal equipment meets all SCTE-40 standards allowing equipment to operate reliably under the worst case scenarios of cable infrastructures.
Except for CSO and CTB interferers, the R&S SFU has the capability, through pre-defined set-ups, digital and analog interferers and signal impairment signals to verify that signals meet the SCTE-40 specifications. This standard specifies a group of measurements and signal interferers injected into the RF path. And the R&S SFU as a signal source provides the needed micro reflections, AM hum, AWGN, phase noise, and Adjacent channel (analog/digital) all at the same time as required by the standard.
The single unit R&S SFU, only four rack units high, allows equipment designers and manufacturers the ability to bench test receiving/ decoding equipment for quality assurance before delivery to cable companies. Cable service providers can use the R&S SFU Broadcast Test System for independent testing of end-user equipment to ensure network performance and that customer satisfaction with Cable TV reception.
Next to making the necessary options and setup files available to its R&S SFU users, there is also a comprehensive and free Application Note available on the Rohde & Schwarz website that describes this application in detail.
Because of its modular design and the incorporation of all common U.S. and international broadcast standards, the R&S SFU can be easily adapted to requirements of different applications. It is an ideal research and development tool for making improvements to introduced standards and for generating new standard signals. Applications that previously required many different instruments are now fully covered by the R&S SFU. Its modern, intuitive concept ensures fast, easy operation. Also the 1024 QAM mode was recently added to the R&S SFU to allow developers of receivers for the J.83/B standard to test for this new mode.
