Kodak Introduces Enhanced Version Of DIGITAL ICE Technology
Kodak has introduced an enhanced version of its proprietary DIGITAL ICE Technology.
The software is designed to automatically detect and eliminate dust, scratches and other anomalies while film images are being converted to digital files for postproduction.
Kodak DIGITAL ICE Technology Version 2.0 more fully integrates with other postproduction applications and offers more output options, making it a state-of-the-art tool for creative and end users.
"This technology is being enthusiastically embraced by postproduction facilities that work with high-end digital film scanners," said Kim Snyder, General Manager, Worldwide Origination Products, and vice president for Kodak's Entertainment Imaging Division. "This upgrade enables facilities to create pristine digital picture files faster and more efficiently. It will speed up and enhance the workflow for digital intermediate, visual effects, film restoration and other applications."
KODAK DIGITAL ICE Technology Version 2.0 incorporates an option for providing "untouched" image data along with the output defect matte generated by the software. Snyder notes that the 'untouched' information feature can be more efficient for facilities that have invested in other dust-busting workflow technologies.
The DIGITAL ICE tri-level output defect matte and dirt/scratch utilities are included in Version 2.0. These features offer a first level in-scanner correction option for less significant defects.
"This advanced technology is a great example of how the convergence of film and digital postproduction are serving the art form," Snyder added. "We are committed to exploring new frontiers in imaging technologies that serve the needs of our customers in the motion picture industry."
KODAK DIGITAL ICE Technology Version 2.0 is available to current licensed scanner partners for integration during the first quarter of 2007. Scanner manufacturers should be contacted directly for additional information.
