Fleetwood Mobiles Makes Sure Vodafone Is In Tune

Fleetwood Mobiles recently spent three days at London's newly refurbished Roundhouse preparing for and capturing the broadcast audio from very first Vodafone Live Music Awards.
The awards ceremony, which took place on Wednesday October 11, was hosted by Chris Moyles and featured performances from Razorlight, Dirty Pretty Things, Maximo Park, Jamiroqui, Girls Aloud, The Automatic, My Chemical Romance and James Morrison.
The entire show was broadcast two hours later on Channel 4 and also fed to 60 radio stations around the country via London's Capital Radio.
Production company Endemol UK commissioned Fleetwood to handle the broadcast audio, which was recorded and mixed by Fleetwood director Tim Summerhayes on board the company's flagship OB truck, Fleetwood One. Freelance engineer Andy Rose was also involved in the project, mixing the presentation audio from inside the Visions mobile. The PA was supplied by Britannia Row, which worked closely with Fleetwood to ensure a great end result.
"Recording live bands is what we do best, so we were delighted to have this opportunity to work on an Awards show where live really meant live," said Tim Summerhayes. "The show's director, Dick Carruthers, did a marvellous job of keeping the energy levels high all day and this really came across in the bands' performances on the night. We're all hoping this will turn into an annual event and that we'll have a chance to be involved in the next one."
Apart from supplying the broadcast audio and presentation mixes, Fleetwood also produced WAV files for the radio broadcast. These were copied onto one gigabyte memory sticks and collected in half-hour chunks by Capital Radio, which then edited them before distributing the audio to radio stations round the country.
