Felicity Goodey appointed Chief Executive at mediacity:uk
mediacity:uk - the ambitious vision to develop a world class media and digital industries hub in Greater Manchester - has appointed Felicity Goodey as Chief Executive.
The decision to appoint Goodey was announced by the mediacity:uk Steering Group who are guiding and managing the project, and marks the next crucial stage of the project.
mediacity:uk will create a world class creative and digital business sector at Salford Quays to rival other new media cities around the world.
The project includes the relocation of several major BBC departments to the Northwest and will be hugely important to the economy of the Northwest. It is expected to create up to 15,500 jobs and will benefit the economy by £200 million per annum throughout the North of England and beyond.
Felicity Goodey is Chair of Central Salford (URC) and has been co-ordinating the mediacity:uk proposal, making her the ideal candidate for the new role. Felicity worked for 28 years with the BBC and is a founder Director of Unique Communications Group, an independent production company which makes programmes for many of the major broadcasters.
The Steering Group represents the interests of the mediacity:uk consortium, Salford City Council, Central Salford (URC) and Peel Holdings, supported by the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA). The group works closely with the BBC to ensure the project meets all the BBC's requirements and achieves the wider economic and other benefits for Greater Manchester, the Northwest region and the UK.
Bryan Gray, Chair of the Steering Group commented: "I am delighted that Felicity, who has already played such a key role in this project, has agreed to take on this important job. The development of mediacity:uk in the region is hugely important to the economy of the North and the UK as a whole."
Salford City Council leader Councillor John Merry, added: "This appointment underlines the commitment of all partners to deliver the benefits of mediacity:uk to the timescale we agreed when the BBC committed to move significant parts of its operations to Salford Quays. I am pleased that Felicity has agreed to devote the time to this job over the coming months."
