NRK Dagsrevyen Upgrade Range Of Cameras

NRK’s Dagsrevyen, Norway’s daily news and sports programme, has chosen to upgrade its range of Sony BetaSP ENG cameras with over 20 Sony PDW-530P XDCAM cameras, multiple PDW-1500 recorders and several PDW-V1 mobile viewing decks.
When it comes to delivery speed and content quality, today’s fast-paced world of electronic news and sports gathering often puts camera hardware to the toughest tests. That is why Norway’s national broadcaster selected the 50Mbps MPEG IMX-quality file-based acquisition system from Sony. Delivery of the equipment is scheduled to start in August and NRK expects its viewers to start experiencing higher quality images in the early autumn.
When coupled with the Sony Professional Disc format, XDCAM can record two streams of data: one in full resolution MPEG IMX or DVCAM and the other in low-resolution proxy AV MPEG-4. This not only enables fast off-line transfer of footage to the newsroom, it also provides the basis for a thumbnail facility that enables users to easily and instantly review shots.
“It’s great to see that NRK has once again chosen Sony XDCAM - this time as a major component of the file-based production process for its flagship news and sports programme,” commented Mick Sheehan, Media Business Manager at Sony Europe. “Having experienced the reliability of XDCAM in its regional offices and programme production units, the team recognised that it was the right choice for appointment TV programme, Dagsrevyen. XDCAM is robust and integrates effectively with their existing Quantel sQ News Production System and additional field editing solutions.”
