Gee Broadcast Add Support for Sony XDCAM

Following the introduction of the XDCAM Ex format by Sony, Gee Broadcast, suppliers of video servers and systems storage solutions, have implemented support for the new format to their Geevs Server and Lightworks Editors.
Files from the new Sony XDCAM EX cameras can be imported to Geevs for playout or into the Lightworks Softworks and Alacrity Editors. The import keeps the clip timecode and original 1920x1080 format.
Geevs and Lightworks have always supported the XDCAM file format and it was a simple step to add the EX version support. EX offers full 1920 x 1080 resolution throughout the production chain starting from the imaging chip in the camera. The Solid State memory used (PCMCIA ExpressCard34 technology) also improves operation in the field and speeds up the file transfers.
Material from XDCAM EX can be freely mixed with other material for editing on Lightworks or playout on Geevs servers.
Keith Gee said: "It was a natural extension to our family of products to add the XDCAM EX support. We have seen substantial interest in this format since its introduction and already have several customers using it in production. The improvement in quality over the original XDCAM format has clearly been appreciated by our customers. We expect to see significant growth in this area during 2008 because of the advantages of the tapeless operation and great picture quality."
