Screen Scene Purchases Sony XDCAM HD Cameras

Sony has announced that Post Production Facility Screen Scene, has purchased five XDCAM HD cameras through Eurotek.
Screen Scene are supplying a shooting and post solution to Vision Independent Productions one of Irelands biggest production companies for its new adventure show Celebrities Go Wild. The show, which follows celebrities on a seven-day trek along Ireland’s rugged west coast, had a dedicated team of five ENG crews recording close to 24 hours of footage a day.
Jim Duggan, Managing Director, Screen Scene commented: "The XDCAM gave us everything we needed given the very specific demands of the show I don’t think any other format could have handled it."
To meet the demands of live production filming, VIP required a camera that was both durable and reliable. Shooting outside, the camera endured a range of unpredictable weather conditions, from rain and sleet to freezing temperatures and everything else the west coast of Ireland can throw up. Sony’s XDCAM HD’s unique ability to load proxy footage quickly onto servers played a crucial role in the post workflow, all of which was edited on 6 Avid edit rooms also supplied by Screen Scene.
“Screen Scene came to us with this solution and it worked,” commented Steve Curran Head of Production with VIP. “The ENG crews were shooting all day and into the night and everything had to be loaded, the proxies allowed editing to begin immediately, and that’s what my people were most concerned about especially with the show airing the same day as filming."
VIP has used the cameras again on Operation Transformation an 8 x 30 minute series for national broadcaster RTE. Duggan comments “Outside of the specific requirements of Celebrities Go Wild we have already used the 5 camera set up in multi camera environments and for other doc and magazine shows. It’s an excellent format”.
Since winning professional camera of the year in 2006 by America’s Nordahl HDTV Report, XDCAM HD has gone from strength to strength. Its high performance 1/2-inch 3 x CCD imager with native 1440 x 1080 pixel matrix has made it the market leader for professional non-linear production, combining the best of the video and IT world.
