Bectu campaign halts BBC engineering training outsourcing

According to union Bectu, the BBC has scrapped plans to out-source engineering training.
The union said that the news came after a "rearguard campaign" to stop the department being transferred to Capita under BBC Director-General Mark Thompson’s Value for Money programme.
Campaigners' views became a regular editorial feature in the BBC's in-house publication Ariel, as union activists used staff petitions, letter-writing drives, and face-to-face challenges to top managers including Thompson, to press home the importance of engineering training.
The BBC has subsequently confirmed that the engineering training department will stay in-house.
However, it is understood that there will ba a restructuring of the department.
Bectu has hailed the announcement as a "management u-turn" and congratulated its members for the work to help ensure the aims of the union in thwarting the outsourcing initiative for engineering training.
