AVID SHOWCASES STUDENT FILMS

AVID Technology is to showcase University School of Cinema-Television (USC) student films on AvidProNet.com.
Over the next two months the site, a business-to-business Web services portal for media professionals, will host more than half a dozen films created by students at America’s oldest and top ranked film school.
The films, edited exclusively on the Avid Film Composer system, range in genre from comedy to drama. In addition to displaying their work, students detail their filmmaking experience on the site, reinforcing AvidProNet.com’s role as an online community, in which industry professionals can share and exchange creative ideas.
Managing Producer and Chief Architect of AvidProNet.com, Janette Bradley said: “AvidProNet.com is dedicated to promoting the art of content creation and serving as a resource for the post production industry. By including USC student films in the AvidProNet.com showcase, we are providing an entertaining and creative outlet for Avid users to share their work and experiences with a virtual production community. We look forward to expanding the showcase to include additional schools and non-profit organisations in the future.”
USC has always included some of the industry’s most talented individuals, and the school prides itself on the close relationship with the entertainment industry.
Eight of the 10 top-grossing films of all time have had USC Cinema-Television alumni in key creative of production positions, and there have only been two years since 1965 in which alumni have not been nominated for Academy Awards.
Dean Elizabeth Daley of USC said: “Student filmmakers are constantly looking to display their accomplishments before the largest possible audience, and the AvidProNet.com showcase provides a wonderful opportunity to capture the attention of this highly regarded online community for professional editors.”
The USC films can be accessed at http://avidpronet.com/showcase/usc/index.html.
