Off The Fence sells to Polish companies

Leading independent production and distribution company Off the Fence has announced a number of Polish deals in the lead up to the DISCOP market.
The sales, brokered by Sales Executive Rosie Flynn, include a package of three one-hour specials to TVP2, Poland. The first programme, 'Cherub of the Mist', from Bedi Films / Bedi Films Visuals India, was launched at MIPTV in April and takes to the treetops to bring alive the irresistible charm of the Ailurus Fulgens, or Red Pandas.
These bamboo-eating carnivores have eluded biologists for years due to the forbidding terrain of their mountain habitat, but Indian biologist Dr. Pradhan follows two pandas for 14 months, Mini and Sweety, in a study of the ecology, behaviour and feeding patterns of the pandas. With moments of both sadness and joy, Cherub of the Mist takes a charming look at these mysterious creatures of the wild.
Cicada Films’ 'The Year Without Summer' is the second show for TVP2. On April 10, 1815 Mount Tambora in Eastern Indonesia unleashed one of the most violent volcanic eruptions in history, killing 117,000 people. However, the death toll rose yet higher in its aftermath, as it triggered a worldwide climate change that had devastating effects. It is now believed that this eruption caused an extraordinary and little-known cataclysmic effect on the world’s climate.
American climatologist Michael Chenowith has investigated the eruption of 1815 to discover that the event brought frosts and snow to the Northern Hemisphere in June, July and August, thus destroying harvests in Europe and North America and leaving thousands dead from starvation in The Year Without Summer.
'Crown of Thorns Starfish', the final programme for TVP2, looks at the ‘monster from the shallows’ lurking in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. The Crown of Thorns Starfish is a controversial creature which can grow up to 80cm in diameter, with females being able to produce 250 million eggs in a season. Their voracious appetites, which affect coral reefs, have scientists worldwide debating whether they are a major peril, or a cyclical phenomena. Crown of Thorns Starfish attempts to make sense of the differing scientific opinion and get to the bottom of all the mystery.
In a final deal, Ale Kino!, Poland, acquired the 'Ultimate Super' series. These 3 x 1 hour programmes were launched at MIPTV and review the pop culture fascination with super-heroes, super-villains and super-vixens from the world of movies, comic books and video games. The series, produced by Prometheus Entertainment and Fox Television Studios, focuses on the most enigmatic characters that have transformed the world of entertainment. Each one-hour special features a countdown of 20 heroes, vixens and villains that have captured the imaginations of fans around the world.
Liliana Lombardero, General Manager, Distribution at Off the Fence, commented: “We are very pleased to have built such strong relationships with Polish broadcasters TVP2 and Ale Kino!, with whom we feel our factual catalogue is a perfect fit. We look forward to DISCOP as an opportunity to nurture our associations with not only these but all Eastern European broadcasters.”
