Telecast Fiber Systems showcase new module for Viper II platform

At NAB2006 Telecast Fiber Systems will showcase a new module set for the company's popular Viper II fiber optic video/audio platform.
Telecast's new 5269 fiber optic serial digital video/audio module set offers the industry's highest SDI transmission performance, along with dual AES audio for long-distance signal transport on just one wavelength.
"The Viper II 5269 set gives users the ability to support both SDI and AES audio without the complexity or cost of additional embedders and de-embedders," said Telecast President Richard Cerny. "In addition, the modules' powerful link margin allows broadcasters, uplink facilities, telecommunications providers, and other users to transport and distribute digital video and audio over longer distances and more intricate networks."
The 5269 set automatically detects and handles both 270-Mbps ANSI/SMPTE 259M NTSC/PAL serial component video and DVB/ASI. In providing dual AES audio support, it digitally time-division multiplexes and transports two asynchronous, unbalanced AES signals in parallel with the video, permitting additional audio embedding in the SDI, if desired.
A 30-dB dynamic optical margin provides the long-distance transmission capability important in applications such as metropolitan video distribution, telco, and "last-mile" networks, as well as facilitywide or campuswide SDI networks, government facilities, studio-transmitter links, and remote broadcast production. When combined with the Teleport CWDM manager, up to 16 SDI signals plus 32 AES signals can be transported on a single fiber.
Like other products in the Viper II family, the 5269 module set is available as a "throw-down" stand-alone unit or may be rack-mounted in a Viper II card frame. It also meets Telecast's high standard of operation in difficult environments, featuring a wide-operating temperature range and low-power consumption in a rugged, reliable design.
