Telecast Fiber Systems ships DiamondBack II video multiplexer
Telecast Fiber Systems has begun shipping its new DiamondBack II fibre optic video multiplexer, which will be on display at NAB booth SU9824.
Representatives from Telecast will host demonstrations of the new product, a successor to the company's popular DiamondBack multiplexer throughout the conference.
The DiamondBack II transmits eight broadcast-quality analogue video signals and features a ninth input to accommodate audio, intercom, and data signals from the company's Adder audio multiplexer line. With the DiamondBack II, broadcasters can cost-effectively streamline broadcast-quality productions by incorporating up to eight video and 16 audio channels on a single fibre.
First introduced at IBC 2003, the DiamondBack II is designed to support a full range of television productions, including broadcast announce-booth feeds, courtesy and utility video, high-end video surveillance, traffic cameras, distance learning programming, corporate video distribution and video arraignment and telemedicine applications.
"We've updated our popular DiamondBack system by increasing the signal-to-noise ratio to more than 70 dB, allowing us to offer a more robust solution to those with broadcast-quality analog transmission needs," said Telecast Fiber Systems President Richard A. Cerny. "It has always been important to us that we remain responsive to our customers' needs in the field, and the DiamondBack II is an illustration of our commitment to maintaining this relationship."
Each of the 1-RU DiamondBack II's eight broadcast-quality video channels supports NTSC, PAL, SECAM, and composite video formats, plus loop-through inputs and dual video outputs. By employing wavelength division multiplexer (WDM) couplers, users can expand the capacity of the DiamondBack II to support 64 video and 128 audio channels on one single-mode fibre.
Designed for use under extreme conditions, the DiamondBack II operates over a wide temperature range with no cooling fans. The system is lightweight and highly portable, consuming less than 20 watts at 12 to 24 VDC for hours of operation using standard camera batteries.
