NTL UNITE UK AND IRELAND WITH NEW SERVICE

NTL are to offer broadcasters in Ireland, mainland UK and beyond, access to the first independently managed, fully redundant video-over-fibre contribution service between Dublin, Belfast and London.
The service includes local video switching within each city or between cities, and international connections are available.
NTL’s Business Director for Media Solutions Steve Holebrook said: “Traditionally our clients have had to self-provide this kind of service and offset the cost by selling on to their partners. NTL is now removing that headache by providing cost-efficient, reliable and convenient links that are available at short notice 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”
Broadcasters who have already signed up to use the new service include the BBC, RTE and UTV. For those who require onward transmission, NTL has fibre links into many of the major broadcasting centres in London, including Telecom Tower, as well as transatlantic fibre and satellite links to provide contribution and distribution services around the globe.
The fully redundant ‘dual’ routes under the Irish Sea each consist of 48 fibres and provide the first restorable SDH (Synchoronous Digital Hierarchy) connections between the two parts of Ireland and the UK mainland.
