Picture Canning North supports Newcastle HD boom

Picture Canning North has been inundated with requests for High Definition camera equipment thanks to the willingness of local filmmakers to embrace the new format.
During 2005, the broadcast equipment rental company supplied HD cameras for six different projects, including a number of commercials and short films for new media companies.
But this year alone Picture Canning North’s Newcastle branch has supplied HD equipment to shoot one short film and six television commercials – two for production company Dene Films and four for advertising agency Robson Brown.
Jamie Hutchinson, who manages Picture Canning North, said: “The quality HD offers is not only as good as film but allows our clients to turn there productions around quicker without any compromises to the creative process. We have now found that more and more of our customers are willing to try it. However, as with any new format there is a learning curve. Our experience with HD means that we can provide customers with more than just a rental package – we can also help them avoid technical difficulties by ensuring that their equipment is properly set up before the shoot and of course the support we give to all our clients throughout the process.”
Since the start of the year, Dene Films has shot two HD commercials for water cooler & dehumidifier supplier Ebac; as well as furniture retailer Barker & Stonehouse. Robson Brown’s HD shoots have all been commercials promoting local retailers including Collectables and Storey Carpets as well as Chester Zoo and Newcastle Building Society.
“Both companies are major players in the North East’s advertising industry and because they have a film background, they have been very open to experimenting with HD,” Hutchinson added. “All six commercials were shot in local studios, although the Chester Zoo commercial also incorporated a location shoot at the Zoo.”
Picture Canning North, part of the Picture Canning Company, offers a full range of services to clients for whom London is somewhat remote. The success of the north east office in Newcastle recently led to the opening of a second office in Manchester, which is now establishing a strong client base throughout the north west.
