New from ROOT6 at NAB

At NAB Booths SL 1600 (Facilis) and SL 1513 (Avid Developers), ROOT6 Technology will demonstrate all-new ground-breaking V2 features for its universal encoding platform, ContentAgent-XR.
These include a world-first, the transcoding of massive 4K resolution DPX film files (can be 75MB per film frame in 16bit RGB) into all commonly used manageable file formats for Digital Intermediate workflow.
ContentAgent-XR is designed for encode-intensive workflows encountered in broadcast, post production and film environments and comprises dedicated, rack-mounted hardware running embedded Windows XP.
The new user interface, designed specifically for non-technical operation, is a toolset for handling every aspect of digital media file acquisition, conversion, management, output and distribution. Using simple 'child steps', even the most complex file processing workflow can easily be constructed, automated, and saved for future use.
New for NAB is 4K/2K DPX transcoding to all commonly used formats including Avid MXF. Importantly, transcoded files can include burnt-in metadata from the DPX header including timecode and keykode.
A new transform engine in V2 software provides standards, frame rate and aspect ratio conversion - globally if required. In practice this enables files with different television standards, frame rates and aspect ratios to be dropped into an XR folder where a pre-determined automated workflow will convert every clip to, for example, NTSC 30 fps 4x3 images.
With new V2 software, the SD DVD creation capabilities of the original system are now greatly enhanced with the provision of integral WMV HD DVD burning capabilities. As before, the system enables the easy creation of interactive DVD navigation with the provision of templates for backgrounds, text, graphics and button layouts.
In addition to SDI outputs for layback to tape, XR provides fully integrated file distribution via email, ftp and - new in V2 - web and RSS, to which XR can both publish and subscribe. Secure asset distribution is assured with the provision of watermarking and Digital Rights Management.
"ContentAgent-XR is a universal one-stop shop for everything to do with digital media files," said ROOT6 Technology Managing Director Marcus Hume-Humphreys. "Whether you're a broadcaster coding in realtime for transmission, a post house bulk-transcoding material for mobile and internet delivery, of a DI facility converting huge DPX files to more manageable formats for review, XR will transform your workflow."
