SKY MOVE TO FILL NINE O'CLOCK NEWS VACUUM

News Image
SKY NEWS have created a new half-hour news bulletin to fill the 9pm news vacuum left by the BBC’s decision to move their main late evening news programme to 10pm.
Nick Pollard, Head of Sky News, said: “Our Nine o'clock News will be an overview of the world at nine. We see the bulletin as a portal to allow disillusioned former BBC 9 o’clock News viewers used to watching the news at a set time to make the transition to Sky News, where they can access news where and when it suits them. With his vast broadcasting experience and on-screen charisma, Jeremy is one of the very few presenters on British television who can carry this style of presentation off.”
News correspondent, Jeremy Thompson, will present the new half-hour bulletin, which will air, from October 16. Sky aims to attract former viewers of the BBC’s Nine O’clock News.
Thompson will present the bulletin single-handed, standing in an open-plan studio, with the day's stories superimposed behind him. The content will be heavily weighted towards live comment with reporting adding extra facts and interpretation.
At 9.30pm there will be a half hour of rolling news, before Sky News at Ten, presented by Bob Friend and Anna Botting. Sky News at Ten and the Nine O’clock News will complement each other, with new graphics designed for both.
