BBC RESOURCES NET ONNET PROJECT

BBC Resources Design and Interactive division have created all the user interfaces for ONdigital’s recently launched ONnet internet TV service.
The BBC’s design solution was applied across the ONnet portal, on navigation bars and e-mail screens. It was also used on all provisioning and set-up screens required by the platform itself and BT as the ISP. The ONnet deign work builds on the success of BBC Resources Design and Interactive’s work for ONrequest, ONdigital’s ‘near video on demand service’.
Patrick Elliott, Acting Director of Interactivity at ONdigital, said: “We selected BBC Resources because of their understanding of the unique characteristics of the TV viewer experience, and the originality and simplicity of their design concept. With their help we have created a very distinctive user interface, unlike any other Internet or ‘walled garden’ TV portal, and initial customer feedback and usage of ONnet have been extremely positive.”
Viewers using the ONdigital ‘Netbox’ and a bespoke ONnet keyboard are able to watch TV, send an e-mail, surf the web or browse ONnet’s portal for shopping news, entertainment, travel, money, sport, games, lifestyle and TV guide information.
BBC Resources’ team included, lead designer Mark Walters and interactive designers Katie Wall and Neil Wardrop.
Design Producer Victoria Jaye said: “The design concept encompassed a broadcast look and feel, utilised the famous ‘O’s’ associated with the ONdigital brand, and synthesised these into a solution that made the broadly text based content simple to navigate and easy on the eye.” (CMcL)
