OmniBus automates content management for Discovery Networks
OmniBus Systems' Colossus network-based automation and content management solution has been integrated into Ascent Media Network Services' (AMNS) innovative origination facilities in London and Singapore as well as the Discovery owned-and-operated Discovery Television and Technology Center in Sterling, Va.
These three facilities, enabled by OmniBus automation, provide reliable and efficient playout for Discovery Communications, the leading global real-world media and entertainment company with over 90 networks of distinctive programming, representing 25 network entertainment brands.
By managing transmission processes from ingest to playout at all three facilities, OmniBus automation plays a vital role in Discovery's initiative to make an enterprise-wide transition to file-based platforms for greater flexibility in accessing and leveraging the company's high-quality media assets. Whether the facilities are owned and managed by AMNS or Discovery, the common platform for content management and exchange of data is OmniBus.
A unique timeline-based, multichannel, multidelivery automation and control system, Colossus is highly scalable and easily accommodates increases in channel output, with tools for ingest, quality assurance, content management, workflow management, and interfacing with archive systems.
The Colossus system is capable of segregating content and managing multiple language files. It is integrated with an Omneon Spectrum media server system to provide language-stacking functionality that significantly simplifies multilingual playout. As a result, Ascent or Discovery's operators who are managing broadcasts can match video files to corresponding audio in any number of languages.
