SCI FI TO DISTRIBUTE ‘VIDEODROME’
SCI FI, the cable satellite and Skydigital channel will be re-releasing and distributing a new print of David Cronenberg’s cult classic ‘Videodrome’.
SCI FI and ICA Projects will be re-releasing one of the seminal science fiction films of the last two decades and will oversee its distribution in cinemas, film theatres and film societies throughout the UK from November. SCI FI and ICA projects own the exclusive distribution rights to Videodrome in the UK for the next five years.
Janet Goldsmith, Managing Director of SCI FI and Universal Studios Network UK said: “SCI FI has a strong heritage as a science fiction broadcaster and is an enthusiastic supporter of this important genre both on and off-air. This initiative endorses our on-going commitment to all forms of science fiction film-making, enabling a new generation of cinema goers to experience one of the most seminal science fiction titles ever made on the big screen.”
SCI FI’s decision to re-release Videodrome follows the channel’s recent relaunch of SCI FI shorts, a genre dedicated short film competition which guarantees theatrical distribution in UCI cinemas nation wide.
The new print of ‘Videodrome’ will be showing at the ICA cinema for three weeks from November 17 before going on release across the UK from December 8.
The film is expected to be picked up by a large number of commercial independent cinemas, regional film theatres and film societies across Britain. Bookings have already been taken from a wide cross section of venues in London, Birmingham, Lancaster and Manchester. (CMcL)
