Smoke & Mirrors' Sci Fi 'Tattoo Man' wins AICP award

Smoke & Mirrors 3D Animation department recently received recognition for their animation work on Sci-Fi Channel’s ‘Tattoo Man’, which won the Animation category at this year’s AICP awards.
The New York based show, The Art & Technique of the American Commercial, presents US commercials and advertising, focusing on the crafts and expertise that come together to create the end result.
The Show travels across the States and globally, before its content joins the archive of MOMA’s Film and Media department in New York.
Smoke & Mirror’s Head of 3D, Rebekah King-Britton, led the project along with Creative Director / VFX Supervisor Sean Broughton.
The project also involved careful seamless and sympathetic compositing of CG elements, to create a filmic end result for the painterly tattoo-ed creatures’ transition into living animals in the live action environment.
Senior Flame Artist Tony Lawrence, Broughton, and the team worked closely with director Vaughan Arnell and the make up artists to design the butterflies, dragon and spider tattoo creatures, ensuring a seamless blend of live action master shots, effects elements and CGI.
The humorous Tango ‘Helmet’, which Smoke & Mirror’s Hani AlYousif posted on Flame for Naom Murro at MJZ and Clemmow Hornby Inge, also won an award for Advertising Excellence / International.
