Lonely Planet features Dublin for next series

The FILM DUBLIN Partnership, an Irish Film Board initiative aimed at ensuring Dublin remains an attractive location for film and television production, has recently been assisting the hugely successful urban travel TV series ‘Lonely Planet Six Degrees’.
The programme, which currently broadcasts in over 50 countries around the world, will feature Dublin City in their next series.
The programme focuses on discovering the essence of a city by getting immersed in the lives of its residents. Aimed at 18-35 year olds, each Six Degrees journey begins with a traveller arriving in a new city with a single point of contact. From this initial encounter a chain of connectivity is forged as one person leads them to another and another and another. By exploring this way, the traveller experiences a real slice of city life by witnessing it through the eyes of six of its most colourful and clued-in residents.
Shooting on location for over three weeks, the production has explored city centre locations in Dublin including Grafton Street, Moore Street, O’Connell Street, Temple Bar and Trinity College but have also broadened their spectrum to include Sulkie racing on Dollymount Strand, the Ballymum horse association, Gay Bingo in the George pub and Gospel singing in Damastown.
The programme will also feature comedienne David McSavage busking in Temple Bar, a beauty pageant for the most beautiful African woman in Ireland and an historical tour based on the events of 1916 in Kilmainham Jail.
The production has received assistance from FILM DUBLIN partners including Dublin City Council and the Gardai in particular, on a variety of different locations around Dublin. The FILM DUBLIN Partnership has expanded from eight key members to include 27 major organisations over the last few months, with newest members including the Dublin Chamber of Commerce, all Dublin’s local authorities, Dublin Bus, Dublin City University and even Dublin Zoo.
"The FILM DUBLIN Partnership is a welcome addition to Irelands film & television sectors. Maintaining access to Dublin as a production base is key to attracting mobile international film and television projects to Ireland. It is wonderful to see the film industry and the city working together in a coordinated way", said Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board Film Commissioner, Naoise Barry.
Lonely Planet Six Degrees finished shooting in Dublin over the weekend with their final destination being Oliver Bond Street, Dublin 8 where they filmed the burning of a 30ft Wicker man as part of a Youth at Risk programme.
