Sherlock Drama Unfolds In Dublin As 'Baker Street Irregulars' Is filmed
Dublin doubles as London in a new two-part Sherlock Holmes TV drama 'Baker Street Irregulars' currently filming on location in Dublin.
Shooting for six weeks in various locations around the city, the series will star the award winning actor Jonathan Pryce (Pirates of the Caribbean) as Sherlock Holmes, with Bill Paterson (Sea of Souls (BBC); Auf Wiedersehen Pet (BBC)) playing his trusty companion, Dr Watson and is shooting on location around Dublin city for six weeks.
The FILM DUBLIN partnership, an Irish Film Board initiative aimed at ensuring Dublin remains an attractive location for film and television production, has assisted the production whilst shooting in the city.
There are a number of Irish cast starring in the series and over 300 Irish extras. There are approximately eleven Irish Heads of Departments working on the series including Director of Photography Ciaran Tanham, Production Manager Maggie Mooney, Costume Designer Leonie Prendergast, and Location Manager Peter Conway.
Baker Street Irregulars is an original Sherlock Holmes mystery written by Richard Kurti and Bev Doyle (writers of BBC’s Kidnapped and co-writers of Robin Hood (BBC), which pits Holmes and the Irregulars against one of Holmes’ greatest enemies. The rag-tag group of street kids known as the Irregulars first appeared in the Sherlock Holmes novel A Study in Scarlet in 1887.
This time, the Irregulars find themselves having to solve the mysterious disappearance of two of their own gang, while Holmes himself is accused of murder and put under house arrest. Only by the combination of all their skills can they hope to free Holmes and the kidnap victims, solve the murders and prevent an audacious heist.
The FILM DUBLIN Partnership has expanded from 8 key members to include 29 major organisations over the last few months, with newest members including the Office of Public Works.
The series is produced by RDF Media and award-winning Irish production company Element Films (The Wind that Shakes the Barley, Adam & Paul) for the BBC and will broadcast in 2007.
