Thomson LDK 8300 HD Super SloMo Camera Wins 'STAR' Award At IBC

The Thomson Grass Valley LDK 8300 HD Super SloMo camera from Thomson, a leading provider of video solutions, has been recognised with a 2008 STAR (Superior Technology Award Recipient) Award by the editorial staff of TV Technology Europe magazine at the 2008 IBC convention.
The STAR Award (Superior Technology Award Recipient) is designed to celebrate and showcase the preeminent technological innovations available to the broadcast industry. TV Technology Europe's editor reviewed a variety of products, examined the technical applications and their overall contribution to the industry and then chose 25 winners.
Mark Hallinger, Editor of TV Technology Europe, said: "STAR awards are given to interesting new products that help a user save money or accomplish a task in an easier way. The products selected help advance the industry - some were chosen because of technical novelty or innovation, some because they filled an important gap in the production or transmission chain and some because they were just cool products."
The Thomson LDK 8300 camera made its debut on Sunday 8 June as part of the coverage of the Euro2008 European Football Championships, bringing coverage of the opening game to around 100 million viewers. 48 of the cameras were in use in August and September in Beijing, covering the whole range of events.
The Thomson Grass Valley LDK 8300 HD Super SloMo camera offers a number of unique features, such as the ability to selectively operate at 1X, 2X and 3X speeds; 1080i and 720p acquisition; the best picture quality for slow-motion replay with exclusive Thomson AnyLight flicker reduction technology; and the best signal processing features in the industry.
This includes a very high signal-to-noise ratio of >57 dB, when compared to currently accepted HD industry standards. The LDK 8300 offers the superior image reproduction, colorimetry and video processing found in the LDK 8000 product line, to meet the exacting demands of producers and directors worldwide.
The LDK 8300 Super SloMo camera captures video at 150 and 180 HD fields per second - three times the 50 and 60 fields per second rate of traditional HD cameras - with superb signal-to-noise ratio resulting in stunning slo-mo replays.
A new revolutionary fibre interface delivers the extremely high data rate back to the servers.
The Thomson AnyLight flicker reduction technology eliminates any perceived changes in light levels due to any differences in the mains power frequency and with the sychronisation with artificial lights, such as those found in sports venues.
