Compulite report successful PLASA 2005
Compulite and its UK distributor Stagetec Distribution have reported another successful PLASA show.
Andrew Stone from Stagetec said: “Last year we launched the Compulite Vector Green console at PLASA and took orders for six systems on the stand. This year we launched the Vector Lite (also known as ‘Orange’ in some markets) and Vector Playback wings to unanimous acclaim and we took orders for three Vector Lite systems, one Vector Green, two Vector Blues and two playback wings – this makes a total of 26 Vector systems in the UK. The quality of visitors was definitely up this year, with a steady stream of industry professionals from all markets visiting our stand.”
Lighting Director Neil Yates from Granada Television in Manchester, whose internal resource company 3SixtyMedia purchased one Vector Green, one Vector Blue and a playback wing through Compulite reseller Flashlight, said: “We have looked at a number of products over the past 12/18 months to find a moving light console to suit our requirements. We tried out the Vector Blue on ‘Celebrities under Pressure’ and the ‘Youth Eurovision Song Contest UK Finals’ and the ease of use and speed of programming confirmed that this was the console for us. We would like to thank Andy Stone of Stagetec Distribution for all his help over the last year with training and support.”
The second Vector Blue was purchased by Ian Reith, who is in the process of setting up a new media studio, Fractured Pictures, using WYSIWYG and Catalyst systems to produce top quality digital media. Reith commented: “I decided to purchase a Vector Blue system after looking at all the latest moving light consoles in the market. I worked for Vari*lite for many years and one of the main features I liked about their desk was the ability to draw your rig and select lights by clicking on them, very fast for making groups or grabbing fixtures. I was very pleased to see the Vector incorporates this feature, this helped make up my mind. It is also important for me to buy a console where I can be assured of constant software support and advice in the UK from a company that knows the desk back to front and I couldn’t fault Stagetec Distribution here, their support is second to none.
“The Vector Blue is built with high quality buttons and faders and powerful enough to run a wide variety of shows, large or small. I have recently invested in setting up my own WYSIWYG studio and own a Catalyst system, so the latest Vector software that incorporates full bi-directional support and integration of WYSIWYG and media servers will be extremely useful. In this new studio we will be shooting live action material for the Catalyst and the Vector is the best console available on the market. I wanted to set my new operation up to be the ideal place to plan and program your production for both lighting and video, I am certain the Vector will become an integral part of that. I look forward to programming many shows on it.’
The Vector Lite systems were purchased by the BBC Television Centre in London for the CBBC show Xchange and Tim Matthews (two systems) of Fentura Productions, who already owns a Vector Green system. Matthews said: “The Vector Green has already proved itself as a versatile console, quick and easy to program. However, our main area of work is exhibitions and corporate events and we had a requirement for a compact, portable console capable of controlling anything from a six channel dimmer pack to digital media and everything in-between, but at an affordable price for our clients. As soon as I saw the Vector Lite I was convinced it would suit our requirements exactly and ordered two!”
