The Associated Press demonstrate latest version of ENPS 5.0
The Associated Press will demonstrate ENPS 5.0, the latest version of its industry leading news production system at IBC 2005 in Amsterdam.
Continuing the unparalleled ENPS development schedule of biannual updates, ENPS 5.0 has some significant new features.
The ENPS experience is greatly enhanced by a new user interface, which now adheres to the graphical Windows XP design while still maintaining its unique functionality. Another advancement is the new Briefing Bar, which gives journalists the ability to search their enterprise, their archives or the Web from the main ENPS desktop.
Bold, Italics, Spell Check, Font, Print and more in the new control bar. Once a journalist begins a script, the new control bar is deployed to the top of the window allowing easy, one button access to all available formatting tools, Along with the control bar, the new Story Black Line lets journalists store source material (story notes, Web addresses, pointers to video or other media) in a holding area at the bottom of the script window when assignment items are dragged into running orders.
Always at the front of MOS development, ENPS 5.0 users can search long-term archives, easily bringing offline media clips to a daily server and have MOS friendly names shown in MOS Autocreate and MOS Placeholder create.
Another significant UI enhancement is the detachable plug-in window, increasing the area in which third-party applications can be used. This not only lets journalists maximize screen space, but users can now have up to three simultaneous controls open at once. New options also allow users to easily run ENPS and non-linear edit controls simultaneously, including a new dual-monitor mode.
ENPS adds support for xml-based standards such as NewsML, SportsML, and NITF, with expanded ability to ingest agency copy in multiple languages.
Building on the announcement at IBC 2004 to provide limited SNAPFeed licenses free for ENPS customers, AP has improved and enhanced this store and forward application. SNAPFeed 3.0 has an even more journalist-friendly interface, and also offers new options for live reporting via satellite phones or other remote connections.
